Hello and welcome to the new and improved Weis Photography and Bruja Betty Pin Up website!
This is my inaugural blog post on this shiny, new platform. While blogging has never been my strong suit (lets face it- anything social media is impossible for me to keep up with), my goal this year is to utilize this space more than I have in the past. We’re not off to a great start since today is April 1st, which means we are officially 4 months into 2024, but dammit we are going to try! So lets start off with a little introductory post:
Hej hej!! My name is Keely, and I’m the owner and lead photographer of Weis Photography, LLC. Under my the umbrella of my business I currently have one other brand, Bruja Betty Pin Up. While Weis Photography is where all of my weddings, engagement, and professional branding photography lives, Bruja Betty is where all of my off-the-wall, funky, sexy, cool stuff lives. Early in my career, everything was under one name (Keely Weis Photography), but as my clientele and work evolved, it felt best to seperate the traditional from the not-so-traditional. Maybe one day things will merge together again, but for right now, I enjoy working under these two brands in the Cincinnati through Dayton, Ohio areas.
As of August of this year, I will have been a photographer for 20 years, and working professional for 14 years. To say this is my “dream career” or “my passion” doesn’t really do my journey justice. From as early as 5 years old, I knew I wanted to be an artist. Like most kids, I drew constantly, and I even have memories of setting up still lifes using my stuff animals and taking pictures with a Crayola Flash 110 Camera. However, I didn’t truly get into photography until I was a 16 year old who needed to take photos for my drama department as the troupe Historian. This is where I got into digital photography, photo editing, etc., still relatively early on in the digital revolution of cameras. From there I started taking my friend’s senior photos for pennies, and the rest is history.
Since finding my niche in the pin up, boudoir, and conceptual photography world, as well as becoming a cinematic wedding photographer, I’ve also found myself in a position to help educate and mentor other photographers within the industry. This comes in the form of conflict management, policy making, and developing the necessary leadership skills needed to be a successful small business owner. I find that a lot of new photographers can get blindsided by the need for these soft skills in order to run their small business. If I have a passion for anything, it’s definitely helping and elevating people to their full potential through professional development and consulting. If you’re interested in learning more about my proven conflict management tactics for your own photography business, please follow me on social media and sign up for my mailing list to be up to date on workshops, webinars, and other learning opportunities.
2024 is going to be a year of learning, growth, and trying new things, so be sure to follow along to see what sticks!
